Biradora of the Week- Mary Joy Baron

Name: Mary Joy Baron
School: De La Salle University- Manila
Height: 5'11"
Volleyball Position: Middle Blocker

Bakit siya ang aking napiling ifeature?

First, napakalaki ng improvement niya as a player and second, siya ang consistent top scorer ng kanyang team. Last Season 77, I remember during the Finals, nag-timeout si Coach Ramil to remind the girls na itaas lang kay Joy (referring to her) dahil siya lang yung hindi mabantayan ng kalaban gawa nga ng kanyang height and angle sa pagpalo. Ara Galang was not there because of her injury and Cyd Demecillo cannot penetrate Ateneo's impeccable floor defense that's why Mary Joy stepped up. But still hindi enough ang efforts niya para mapanalo ang La Salle.

Ngayong Season 78, I can see that she is now tougher and stronger with her 27 spikes, 14 blocks and 3 service aces in just three games. Just like what I said, siya ngayon ang offensive leader ng La Salle and currently #5 sa Best Scorer and #1 sa Best Blocker.

Here are some of her contributions on their game against NU where she scored 19 points.
(1:19- Baron quick hit, 1:49 Baron blocks Santiago, 4:04 Baron solid block against Santiago, 4:53 Baron middle attack)

Mary Joy Baron has really a lot of potentials. I can see her winning the Best Blocker Award this UAAP Season (even thought it's too early to predict) and I bet she should also be included on the next U-23 Asian Tournament. For now, she needs to consistently deliver for her squad in order to further improve her skills.

Thanks Guys!!!!! :)
